Penn State coach Franklin says Shoop will be his defensive coordinator

Bob Shoop, who was James Franklin's defensive coordinator at Vanderbilt, will be reunited at Penn State.

AFTER A VISIT to St. Joseph's Prep yesterday, new Penn State coach James Franklin broke some news.

During an interview, Franklin introduced Bob Shoop as his new defensive coodinator. Shoop was the defensive coordinator under Franklin at Vanderbilt.

"Obviously, this being my hometown [Philadelphia], I hope we have some advantages here," Franklin said. "I'm also hiring a staff that has a lot of connections. Whether it's Pittsburgh, my defensive coordinator Bob Shoop, is from Pittsburgh. My dad is from Pittsburgh . . . so we really want to make sure that we can put a staff together that is going to do a great job recruiting the state, as well."

Former Penn State defensive coordinator John Butler, who is from the Philly area, is joining former Nittany Lions coach Bill O'Brien's staff with the Houston Texans.
