The game will take place each year on the second Saturday in December, and the first game on the new date will be played on Dec. 12 at Lincoln Financial Field. It now will be the last regular-season college football game each year.
The academies and CBS also announced yesterday they had extended the TV rights agreement through 2018.
"It's been talked about for years and years," said Bob Beretta, Army senior associate athletic director. "CBS talked to us for a long period of time about moving the game so it would gain more of a national spotlight that has been lost with the proliferation of conference championship games. We're going to look at it as the first bowl game of the season. It's a way to put a bow on the regular season."
"We could not be more pleased," Army athletic director Kevin Anderson said in a statement. "We feel very fortunate that this great American tradition will continue to be delivered to servicemen around the globe."
The game also will be streamed live and free of charge on CBSSports.com, reaching troops around the world.
"There is no more fitting way to conclude the college football regular season," said Mike Aresco, executive vice president for programming at CBS Sports.
This year's game will be played Dec. 6 at Lincoln Financial Field; Navy leads the series, 52-49-7.
Sites for Army-Navy games to be played later than 2009 have not been announced.
* A former Ohio state lawmaker who has admitted he bought Ohio State football tickets with campaign money and sold them for a personal profit is scheduled to be arraigned in Franklin County Municipal Court on related charges next week. Rep. John Widowfield is expected to plead guilty to filing a false financial disclosure statement and converting campaign funds into personal use. Both charges are misdemeanors and each carries a possible 6- month sentence and $1,000 fine.
* Connecticut football coach Randy Edsall said a decision won't be made until game time tomorrow on whether to start sophomore quarterback Zach Frazer against Cincinnati after Frazer suffered a head injury in last week's 12-10 loss at Rutgers. Edsall said the team's medical staff will make the decision. *
