Penn State returner Derrick Williams was named the Big Ten Conference's special-teams player of the week yesterday for his performance in the Nittany Lions' 38-24 win over Illinois on Saturday.
Williams had a clutch 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that gave Penn State a 31-17 lead. He also had a fine day receiving (six catches for 75 yards) and rushing (six carries for 33 yards), and became the first player under coach Joe Paterno to have rushing, receiving and return touchdowns in one game.
His 241 all-purpose yards were a career best and the most for a Penn State player in six seasons.
Penn State, ranked No. 6, travels to Purdue for a noon kickoff on Saturday. The game is to be televised on ESPN.
