Penn State still has not announced who will start at quarterback for Saturday's season opener against visiting Coastal Carolina.
The official depth chart, released yesterday, lists the first-string quarterback as either Daryll Clark or Pat Devlin, which has been the case since spring practice.
Team sources said Clark, a senior, likely would start and that Devlin, a redshirt sophomore out of Downingtown East, probably would get nearly equal playing time, at least in the first game.
Coach Joe Paterno will meet with reporters for a teleconference today and may shed light on the situation. Both players are scheduled for conference calls tomorrow morning.
Earlier this month, Paterno said it might take three or four games before the final decision is made - if the Nittany Lions go with one quarterback. A dual-quarterback system has not been ruled out.
Clark has more experience than Devlin, having backed up Anthony Morelli for two seasons after being redshirted in 2005.
A better runner than passer, Clark ran for 50 yards and a touchdown on six carries in the Lions' 24-17 win over Texas A&M in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.
Devlin, the Pennsylvania high school leader in career passing yards, has thrown only one pass at Penn State, but he was solid in the Blue-White scrimmage in April.
