Nits' Timmons given special probation

Penn State cornerback Knowledge Timmons must serve a year in a probation program for first-time offenders after being charged with two misdemeanors.

Timmons was charged with disorderly conduct and defiant trespass after an Oct. 7 fight that involved three other Penn State players. One man was injured in the campus fight.

Centre County Judge Thomas Kistler placed Timmons in the accelerated rehabilitative disposition program, which is designed for first-time, nonviolent offenders, defense attorney Karen Muir said yesterday. Timmons also must perform 1 day of community service.

The charges can be dismissed and Timmons' record expunged if he completes the program and does not get into trouble, Muir said.

Timmons was suspended from the team this spring, though coach Joe Paterno recently allowed the backup defensive back and special-teams player to start working out with the squad.
