Women's College Basketball: Penn women defeat Temple, 74-70
Alyssa Baron converted a conventional three-point play to break a 70-70 tie in the final minute, and Penn defeated Temple, 74-70, on Wednesday night at McGonigle Hall.
The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Quakers (9-5, 2-2 Big Five) against the Owls (10-8, 1-3).
Baron finished with a game-high 21 points. Kara Bonenberger (Northampton) added 20 points and 12 rebounds for Penn.
Taylor Robinson had 16 points and 15 rebounds for Temple.
St. Joseph's 75, George Washington 69 - The Hawks (15-4, 4-2 Atlantic Ten) scored six unanswered points in the final 1 minute, 13 seconds to earn a road victory over the Colonials (13-6, 4-2).
St. Joe's built a 16-point lead in the first half, but GW used a 13-3 run to make it 34-28 at halftime. The Hawks were ahead by seven with six minutes to play, but the Colonials responded again.
Erin Shields (Archbishop Carroll) led St. Joe's with 21 points and seven assists. Also scoring in double figures for the Hawks were Sarah Fairbanks (16 points), Ilze Gotfrida (12), and Kelsey Berger (10).
St. John's 59, Villanova 52 - Kavunaa Edwards' double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) was not enough for the Wildcats (13-5, 3-4 Big East), who dropped a home contest to the Red Storm (13-5, 6-1).
Penn State 65, Indiana 52 - Maggie Lucas (Germantown Academy) and Ariel Edwards each scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the 13th-ranked Nittany Lions (14-4, 5-1 Big Ten) over the visiting Hoosiers (15-4, 2-4).
Haverford 57, Swarthmore 52 - Elizabeth Lynch scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second half as the Fords (13-1, 8-1 Centennial Conference) remained unbeaten at home with a win over the Garnet (8-8, 3-7).
Rosemont 75, Neumann 68 - Rosemont's Liz Coyne had 29 points and 23 rebounds as the Ravens (6-10, 4-4 Colonial States Athletic Conference) defeated the Knights (10-7, 7-3) in overtime. Jessica Schlesman (Boyertown) led the Knights with 20 points.
