Quigley, a six-time All-America, shattered his own record by 26 seconds en route to finishing first in the competition. His time was the fastest 10K run by an East Coast runner in 25 years at the Stanford meet.
Quigley was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week in track and field for his performance.
The Olympic Trials will be held on June 27-July 6 in Eugene, Ore. The top three runners in the 10K event will go to the Olympic Games in Beijing.
The NCAA outdoor track and field championships will be held June 11-14 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
* A woman who accused Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najeh Davenport of domestic violence testified in a Cleveland courtroom that he slapped and choked her and punched her stomach. Davenport is charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and child endangering. City prosecutors say he slammed Anita Person to the ground, hit her and tried to choke her after he drove from Pittsburgh to Cleveland on Oct. 4 to pick up his 5-year-old son for a weekend visit. Person said Davenport had physically abused her on several occasions, at times more severely.
* The New England Patriots signed free agent linebacker Victor Hobson, who had spent all five of his seasons with the New York Jets.
* The New Orleans Saints signed cornerback Aaron Glenn, hoping the 14-year veteran free agent can help shore up a shoddy pass defense. Glenn, a former first-round pick for the Jets, started four games for Jacksonville in 2007.
* Running back Quincy Wilson was waived by the Cincinnati Bengals. It is the second time in the past 5 days the Bengals released a player who had been arrested.
* Italy defender Marco Materazzi accepted an apology and undisclosed damages from a British newspaper to settle a libel suit stemming from Zinedine Zidane's head butt during the last World Cup final. The Daily Star tabloid said Materazzi goaded the France captain with racist abuse. Zidane was ejected after butting Materazzi, and Italy won the title on penalty kicks. Materazzi accepted a public apology from the newspaper during a court hearing. His lawyer, Jane Phillips, said the newspaper acknowledged that the allegations of racist abuse were "wholly untrue."
* The United States edged China, 9-8, in an early-round game of the World Men's Curling Championship in Grand Forks, N.D. *
