La Salle's Murray steps up to college pressure

La Salle freshman Aaric Murray, regarded as the nation's sixth-best high school center in his senior year by ESPN Insider, brings abundant big-man skills to the veteran-laden Explorers. He's a versatile offensive player, a shot-blocker and someone who runs the floor well.
Given all that, coach John Giannini has no intentions of bringing him along gradually. His goal is for Murray to be "a really good player from Day 1."
Philly teams gearing up for Atlantic-10 hoops schedule
La Salle was picked fourth, Temple fifth and St. Joseph's 10th in the Atlantic 10's preseason poll. The Owls, to replace Dionte Christmas and two other starters, are trying to become the first team to win the conference tournament three consecutive times since 1997.

Coaching greats John Chaney (Temple), Rollie Massimino (Villanova), and Speedy Morris (La Salle) will be inducted into the Big Five Hall of Fame this winter, the organization announced yesterday.
Big 5 to enshrine coaching legends
The Big 5 wanted to come up with a unique way of celebrating its 55th season, so three Philadelphia coaching legends will go into the Big 5 Hall of Fame together in 2010.
