Drexel slips by College of Charleston with late heroics

With Drexel trailing for most of the afternoon, leading scorer Damion Lee rose up and drilled a huge 3-pointer that gave Drexel the lead and ultimately the 53-52 Homecoming victory Saturday against visiting College of Charleston.

Lee's bucket came with 17 seconds remaining. College of Charleston had one last opportunity to win the game, but leading scorer Canyon Barry concluded an end-to-end trip to the basket with a missed layup as time expired.

Lee led Drexel (5-14, 3-5 Colonial Athletic Association) with a game-high 21 points. Tayon Allen added 11 for the Dragons, who won despite making just 34.1 percent of their shots. Ammy Mojica off the bench.

Barry led the Cougars (6-15, 1-7) with 16 points. Cameron Johnson added 11 points for the Cougars. Charleston led for most of the game and shot much better than Drexel, connecting on 43.2 percent of its field goal attempts, including making 9-of-13 3-point field goals.

The Dragons trailed for most of the game and led for just 2 minutes, 34 seconds. Their final margin of victory represented their largest lead of the game.

Next up for the Dragons is a Wednesday meeting with conference-leader Northeastern. That game is the second of three straight home games for the Dragons.
