George Mason roughs up Drexel

FAIRFAX, Va. - Drexel not only ran into the Colonial Athletic Association favorite, the Dragons caught George Mason on a very hot night.

The Patriots shot 50.9 percent from the floor in an 85-38 blowout tonight that set a school record for margin of victory over a CAA opponent.

Mason improved to 6-1 and 1-0 in the conference. Drexel fell to 5-2 and 0-1.

Dre' Smith scored a season-high 16 points for George Mason. Folarin Campbell scored 11, and Will Thomas and Chris Fleming each added 10 points. In all, 10 Patriots players scored in the game.

Tramayne Hawthorne led Drexel with 11 points while Gerald Colds added 10.

Drexel, which entered the game shooting a CAA-best 42.3 percent from three-point range, made just 2 of 12 three-pointers. The Dragons shot 15 of 50 (30 percent) from the floor.

On the other hand, George Mason opened the game by hitting 8 of its first 13 shots, including four three-pointers. The Patriots took an early 22-7 lead en route to a 40-15 halftime advantage.

George Mason scored the first eight points of the second half to surge to a 48-17 lead.

The Patriots outrebounded Drexel by 42-28.
