Player of the Year

Kevin Jones, West Virginia

Coach of the Year

Jim Boeheim, Syracuse

I am a member of the USBWA and a voter in the awards, and I was particularly surprised that no one from Temple was recognized.

I suspect that the slight wasn't so much intentional as it was a reflection of the demographics of the district. It spans D.C., West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, which is a lot of ground to cover. The number of voters in New York City and its environs surely skewed things.

So I'll tell you that my ballot did not have Glover, Harkless, Jardine or Theodore. It did have C.J. Aiken, Tyreek Duren, Ramone Moore and Frantz Massenat.

I voted for Kevin Jones as District Player of the Year, as his numbers are too good to ignore. But I did not vote for Jim Boeheim as District Coach of the Year. I voted for Fran Dunphy, who did more with less talent in my opinion. That's not to slight the Owls, but when you look at the players on Syracuse's roster I think you understand what I mean.

Also, to be honest, I wouldn't vote for a coach involved in a major scandal as Boeheim was with the Bernie Fine matter. The voting deadline came before the Yahoo Sports report on drug use among Boeheim's players, but the residue of the Fine scandal hasn't gone away yet.

What do you think of the USBWA list? Who would you have voted for? We got to pick 10 players for the All-Distirct team, plus a Player of the Year and a Coach of the Year. Post your own ballots in the comments.
