Penn State interim head coach Bradley prepares for Ohio State

Penn State interim coach Tom Bradley said he did not watch last night's interview with Jerry Sandusky on NBC and that he is trying to keep his team focused on Saturday's matchup with Ohio State.

"It's still Ohio State-Penn State," he said during his weekly news conference today. "This is all about the players. It's all about their team and all about our team ... It's an exciting game with a lot of on the line. It will be very spirited matchup regardless of what's going on outside."

Bradley said he is not concerned about the safety of the players or Penn State fans in Columbus.

"Not at all," he said. "We've been contacted by Ohio State. Luke Fickell called and assured me there will be no problems."

Bradley also said that "we will do something before the game, before we toss the coin." He said he will again not come out with the players and will leave it up to the players as how they decide to enter the field.

Bradley said he has not heard anything from the administration about his future or the coaching staff.

"I haven't asked," he said. "They've asked me to do a job and that's' what I plan on doing."

He again declined to characterize his relationship with Sandusky. As to why, he did not watch the interview he said, "I was working on Ohio state last night. I had other things to do."

Asked if Mike McQueary had coached his last game for Penn State, Bradley said he could not answer that question.

Bradley said he has not yet seen former coach Joe Paterno in person. The two spoke briefly on the phone last week after the change was made.

"If I called him today, he's going to ask me why I'm calling," Bradley said. "He knows the importance of this. He's been through this. … He knows the responsibility we have to Penn State, the players, the parents, their high school coaches. We made a commitment and we're going to follow through with that. As I told the players, the expectations are the expectation. They have not changed. They know the ramifications of the way we're heading here and the way we do things. I made it clear, if you step out of line I am going to come down fast and hard … They all know that."

Bradley said he would not know if any of the players have visited Paterno.

"The mood of the players is very upbeat. The players have been great with the way they have handled this whole thing. I can't be any more proud of a group of young men."

Bradley said that there has been no discussion of Penn State not going to a bowl game, if they are selected.

"That's never come up," he said. "I talked to Dr. [Rodney] Erickson, he's talked to [Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney.] We have been assured that is not the case for the bowl game."

Bradley is most known for being the defensive coordinator. He spent Monday's practice with the offensive players. He said he last coached offense when he the wide receivers coach in 1983. A former special teams coach, Bradley also will be spending time with Anthony Fera and the coverage and return units.

"I am going to be all over the place, helping wherever I can," he said. "I just want to win the game."

Bradley talked a lot about communicating with the players and helping them understand the situation.

"If anybody has a question, they know where my office is, they have a cell phone is, they know how to get a hold of me," he said. "If I don't know the answer I will get the answer. One thing I always try to do with my players is tell them truth."

On Paterno's name being removed from the Big Ten championship trophy: "I just think it's another part of the tragedy that's occurring."

On changes to the coaching staff: Bradley was still involved with the defense last week, but the calls will be made by Larry Johnson and Ron Vanderlin this week. Graduate assistant Elijah Robinson has been elevated to full-time coach. Bill Cavanaugh will be the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, the positions formerly held by Mike McQueary, who remains on administrative leave.

He said Penn State will be better prepared this week with the coaching staff. He said there was some confusion with the personnel groupings on offense for the wide receivers. He said they have had a chance to run through the system.
