Penn State merchandise no longer available online?

UPDATE (11:55 a.m.) - Shopncaasports.com placed this banner on its site telling fans that it was indeed a technical glitch.

Thanks to a tip from friend of the site, Zoo with Roy, I came across something quite interesting on www.shopncaasports.com regarding the availability of Penn State merchandise.

It's all gone! And not because it's sold out.

That's right. The online store of the NCAA has apparently stopped selling Nittany Lions apparel.

The link to the school's section has been removed from all prominent places. When I finally found a link in the Big Ten section, I was given this message: "Oops. We couldn't find the page you requested and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Furthermore, when you search for the school - I tried "Penn State" and "Pennsylvania State University" - the same message appears. After trying a more generic search - "Pennsylvania" - I was given results from nearly every other school in the state, and some as far away as Harvard. But still no Penn State, despite them ranking sixth in the nation in athletic department revenue.

Could this possibly have something to do with the NCAA sanctions imposed in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal?

Not according to Meier Raivich, who does public relations for Fanatics, Inc., the company that hosts the NCAA shop - as well as many other merchandise shops.

"It is just a technical glitch," said Raivich. "They are just temporarily down and will be back up shortly."

It is interesting to note that if you access any other Fanatics sites, like this one, there is no problem finding Penn State gear.

More coming...

Old Germ You are a first class d**k. Not one of these kids that have been here for the last 10 years had one thing to do with Sandusky. To impugn everyone for the sins of one or two is the same as putting your parents in prison for senseless reproduction, or for not teaching you better once they made the first mistake.

    Well said, Delcodanno.

Looks like the German can't read: "despite them ranking sixth in the nation in athletic department revenue."

I get plenty of my PSU gear local. You can find PSU gear at Sports Authority, Kohl's, Home Depot, ACE hardware, Wal-Mart, ETC. I never have any issues finding PSU gear or items. Now that I know they deliberately removed a link to the PSU page I'll never visit the site. Just like I dropped State Farm as my insurance company for bailing on the school. This anti Penn State thing is a two way street.

I guess the NCAA will forego all royalties they earn from the sale of Penn State merchandise?

Penn State is fortunate to have ever had the chance to kick the ball off in the 2012 season (They may have only been able to do so because it would've been so damaging to ALL athletic programs at the University if they'd lost the revenue from the season)

All things considered: They can handle being marginalized (on one site only) when it comes to the availability of merchandise.

As irritating as the NCAA's grandstanding has been, I think it's best to just ignore the clown Emmert and his little fiefdom. The sanctions can't be changed, and my hope is that over time the truth will come out. In the meantime, appreciate the max effort of the "no quit" Penn State team. O'Brien and those kids are turning the page and writing a new story. And you can pick up PSU stuff at lots of places, and also patronize State College retailers; who needs the ncaasports site?

I don't care who you work with retzlaff. All you psu backers have your head in the sand. Why dont you sell some psu merchandise and let me know how that works out for you.

yeah, old german, you're a symbol of grace and objectivity talking like a rude teenager on a message board. The NCAA acted in a politically correct, over reaching fashion, and most professionals I work with in the child abuse field feel the same way. So, go watch some more gossip shows for your edification

Schnauze! Old German, The Sandusky scandal did damage to the reputation of the university, but to be so unthinking as to say that "nobody wants anything to do with them"...well, the 40,000+ students on campus, faculty, donors, and proud alumni would beg to differ. The actions of a few individuals had nothing to do with the many excellent academic programs (i.e. meteorology) or other NCAA sanctioned sports teams at Penn State.

What we have here is discrimination on the part of the NCAA and complicity on the part of the PSU Board in agreeing to those sanctions without fighting them in a court of civil law. Sandusky is the only onoe at fault and the wrong people were charged with what Sandusky did.

Interesting. Just went to the site and you can still buy Ohio State merchandise. Aren't they also under sanctions?
