After improving to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten with its 10-7 win over Illinois on Saturday, Penn State moved up three spots to No. 16 in the latest BCS standings released Sunday night.
LSU and Alabama, which play each other on Saturday, remained Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Oklahoma State, Stanford and Boise State rounded out the top five.
Aside from Penn State, four other Big Ten teams remained in the standings: Nebraska (No. 10), Michigan (No. 15), Michigan State (No. 17) and Wisconsin (No. 20).
The Nittany Lions, who checked in Sunday at No. 15 in the USA TODAY coaches’ poll and No. 16 in the Associated Press poll, are the only team undefeated in Big Ten play and lead Wisconsin, Ohio State and Purdue by 2.5 games in the Leaders Division.
After Saturday’s open date, Penn State hosts Nebraska on Nov. 12 and finishes off the regular season with road games at Ohio State and Wisconsin.
