Former Penn State quarterback Kevin Newsome talked to The Virginian-Pilot about his decision to sign with Temple and his time as a Nittany Lion.

Newsome, who is taking classes at Tidewater Community College (Va.), opted to transfer to Temple over offers from Richmond and Hampton.

Here's what the Portsmouth, Va., native told reporter Larry Rubama:

On ultimately choosing Temple over Richmond:

"It was a very difficult decision. Richmond has a good football team and my little brother [Keevon] plays for them. But I like where [Temple coach Steve Addazio] has the team going, and it's a great institution."

On being beaten out at Penn State by Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin after being expected to start:

"I was definitely down at Penn State when they said I wasn't going to be the starter. I was very hurt. I even felt depressed."

On his expectations at Temple:

"Coach [Addazio] said I can have an opportunity, and that's all I'm looking for. I'm not expecting any handouts. He told me I would get a fair opportunity to play. I'm thankful to have a second chance to play football. It's definitely a blessing."

Newsome has an awesome second chance now. Two of Temples best QB's left Centre County for success in Center City: Adam DiMichele and Steve Joachim.

Poor thing was coached by Jay Paterno. That is depressing. Glad he got out safely.

I felt depressed watching him play. Good luck to you at Temple. Maybe all you needed was some real coaching.
