Before you read the transcript, think about this...

A lot of people are going to point to Villanova's struggles from three-point range as the big reason why the Wildcats lost, and there's some merit in that.

But the really glaring statistic to me is that 'Nova made only seven of 24 TWO-point attempts in the second half, especially in light of their having made 14 of 29 in the first half.

Furthermore, the Wildcats pulled down eight offensive rebounds in the second half. That's more offensive rebounds than two-point field goals made after halftime.

How often do you see that? Not very, I would think.

I read all the comments about St. Joe's fans and the "dislike for 'Nova. I felt the same way when I was a student. However as you get a little older you consider things a little differently. I pulled for St. Joe's when they were moving to the elite 8 with West and Nelson. They were a Big "5" team. I'm now live in NC and all I hear is UNC and ACC. It doesn't matter what part of the state you live in, that's all they write about. If UNC doesn't win the NCAA championship then they failed. We seem to have a hard time just getting a city to support a team from the Big "5". It's hard enough living with this ACC and UNC attitude day in and day out and get even get support for a team from Philly get support from a 20 mile radius of the city when you have to contain with a entire state.

Uh, we don't have trouble supporting the other four teams - it's just the one team.

That is partly because unc-wilmington and winston salem state weren't so good this yr (sarcasm)........we should root for delaware and penn state and rutgers-camden too huh????.........u forgot how Philadelphians think....I am a temple fan first and foremost.......doesn't change the fact that what Nova is doing is very VERY VERY IMPRESSIVE....BUT IT DOESN'T GET ME WARM AND FUZZY IN THE SLIGHTEST ONLY ANGRY AT WHERE THE OWLS HAVE FALLEN FROM IN THE LAST TEN YRS...ILUVPHILLYCITYOFCHAMPIONS....

I've got no problem with students or fans from rival schools in the area not supporting Nova. Fact is Nova came out shooting too fast tonight and that killed them. I think there was a small chance or two during the game to make a run, but they kept chucking up bombs from 3 point range. Great run Wildcats!!

In my opinion, their only impressive win was over UCLA. Think about it. American (who put up a good fight), Duke (very uninspired effort), Pitt (who barely beat any of their previous opponents, and who cant play away from home). Am I saying that Nova didn't deserve to be where they were? No, just that how the bracket came together they had a pretty easy path all things considered.

It's not been reported around here as final but it's been reported in both papers that there was interest. All of said reports were prior to Saturday's game and Chambers insisted at that point that he would not finish the matter until after the game.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
