Johnson transferring from 'Nova

Ty Johnson, a 6-3 sophomore point guard, is transferring from Villanova.

Last season he averaged 3.3 points in 17.7 minutes a game, making nine starts after breaking his foot in the summer. He also had 65 assists, which was second on the team.

But it was becoming apparent that playing time might be an issue. Promising freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy High) looks like he's going to start at one backcourt spot, and steady Wake Forest transfer Anthony Chennault (Ss. Neumann-Goretti) figures to get minutes off the bench. And looking ahead, next season Rice-transfer Dylan Ennis, who some feel could be the best of the bunch, becomes eligible.

Johnson came to the Main Line from North Jersey’s Montrose Christian, projected as the logical successor to Maalik Wayns, who left a year early and is now with the Sixers.

“We’re going to miss Ty,” coach Jay Wright said in a statement. “He’s handled this with class . . . We want what’s best for Ty.”
