'Best' and 'Worst' awards from Temple vs. Xavier

My look at some of the best and worst performances and observations from Temple’s 85-72 victory over Xavier on Saturday night at the Liacouras Center:

Player of the game:  It would be insane to not give this honor to Ramone Moore. The Temple guard did basically whatever he wanted to do against Xavier. In the end, he made 5 of 8 three-pointers en route to scoring a game-high 30 points. The 6-foot-4 fifth-year senior came two points shy of his career high. This was also the third time that he scored 30 points in his career.

Worst performance of the game: At 7 feet and 275 pounds, Kenny Frease was expected to have a presence. Instead, the Xavier center did his best invisible man impersonation. Frease finished with just two points on 1 for 6 shooting. The senior also finished with one rebound.

Best stat by a winning team:  The Owls had a 43-29 rebounding advantage. Eighteen of Temple’s rebounds were offensive. Xavier, however, only eight offensive boards.

Best way to bounce back: This has to go to Temple’s fans for providing an electric atmosphere. There were 9,370 in attendance three days after 4,076 were on hand at the 10,206-seat multiple-purpose venue. While Wednesday night felt like being in a library, Saturday night felt like being at a conference championship.

Worst stat by a losing team: Xavier had more turnovers (six) than points (five) midway through the first half.

Worst stat by a winning team: The Owls shot 33.3 percent from the foul line in the first half (2 for 6). Temple ended up shooting 62.5 percent for the game.

Give Michael Eric 'the Red' and Anthony Lee for keeping Frease on ice. The fans were awesome, especially for a 9PM start. The A-10 seems to get stuck with not-ready-for-prime-time-start-times.

Erick missed about 5 layups but his defense is a big plus.

Frease is cheap-shot artist. When he lowered his should on Eric and then bounced off, he knew he was playing a much tougher guy.

I was disappointment that Dunphy played Eric and Wayt as long as he did. there was a lot of trash talk in that game, and while both played well, both did not seem focused. I would have rather seen summings and lee get more minutes during the blow out. The pace of the game when X went small was also a little fast for Eric.
