It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Big East is ranked above the Atlantic Coast Conference in the latest ESPN conference power rankings.

The Big East has three nationally ranked teams in No. 18 Louisville, No. 20 Rutgers and No. 21 Cincinnati.  The ACC has two in No. 12 Florida State and No. 16 Clemson. And the Big East is 4-3 in games against the rival conference.

But in the updated power rankings released Monday, the Big East is fifth for the first time this season. It was only 0.7 behind the fourth-ranked Big Ten. The ACC is sixth.

The Southeastern Conference is ranked first among the 11 Football Bowl Subdivision conferences. The Big 12 is second, followed by the Pac-12.

If you’re wondering, the Mid-American Conference – Temple’s former league – is ninth.
