'Best' and 'Worst' awards: Temple vs. Towson

My look at some of the best and worst performances from Temple's 72-61 victory over Towson on Wednesday at Heinz Field:

Best performance:  This was a tough one, because Towson power forward Jerrelle Benimon and Temple power forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson both dominated.  But it's hard to overlook someone who finishes with game highs of 30 points and 18 rebounds. So I had to give it to Benimon even in a losing effort. The Georgetown transfer was a beast, making 14 of 22 shot attempts.  Eleven of his rebounds came on the defensive end.

Worst performance: This goes to Tigers guard Jerome Hairston. He struggled from the field. He made just 3 of 10 shot attempts en route to finishing with six points. He also had three turnovers and just one assist in 21 minutes of action.

Best defensive performance: This award goes to Temple point guard Will Cummings. The sophomore finished with a career-high five steals to go with a blocked shot. All three of his rebounds came on the defensive end.

Worst statistic: Towson is not known as a three-point shooting team.  Yet, the Tigers looked like a group of elementary schoolers trying to make long-range shots. Towson made just 1 of 14 three-point attempts. That equals a dreadful 7 percent. Ouch!
