Maryland announced Monday that it will leave the Atlantic Coast Conference for the Big Ten on July 1, 2014. There are reports that current Big East member Rutgers will also join the Big Ten.
Temple football coach Steve Addazio was asked Monday about the possibility of the Scarlet Knights leaving the conference.
“You know I heard that, and I just haven’t thought about it,” said Addazio, whose Owls entertain Syracuse in Friday’s regular-season finale. “So that’s one of those things that I have no thoughts on it until, you know, I have a chance to get through this game. You guys understand."
Temple rejoined the Big East for football this season and will become a conference member for all other sports on July 1, 2013.
The football team left the Mid-American Conference; it had been a football-only member of the MAC since 2007. The Owls were kicked out of the Big East in 2004 for lack of success on the field and in the box office.
Temple currently plays in the Atlantic Ten for all other sports.
Owls athletic director Bill Bradshaw didn’t comment on Rutgers’ reported plan to depart the Big East.
