Carroll star Daly commits to Delaware

It didn't take long for new Delaware men's basketball coach Martin Ingelsby to reach out and land one of his high school alma mater's top players.

Ryan Daly, a 6-foot-4 sharpshooter and senior at Archbishop Carroll, committed to play for the Blue Hens on Wednesday night.

Ingelsby starred as a point guard at Carroll in the mid-1990s and went on to play at Notre Dame. He spent the last seven seasons as an assistant coach at Notre Dame under Mike Brey.

"That's a huge thing, the Carroll connection," Daly said. "He was the Catholic League MVP when he played at Carroll. He understands what Philly basketball is all about and the kind of players it produces."

Daly averaged 21.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.3 steals for the Patriots last season. The Catholic League's most valuable player buried 65 three-pointers.

Daly, who sparked Carroll to a 23-4 record and the second round of the PIAA Class 3A state playoffs, decommitted from Hartford at the end of the season.

"Delaware was my dream school growing up," said Daly, whose father, Brian, was an assistant coach at Boston University and Penn State. "It's like a smaller version of Penn State. And the Colonial Athletic Association is a great and competitive league."

Daly said he also had scholarship offers from Baltimore-Maryland County, Holy Cross, Mount St. Mary's, and Morgan State. Drexel and Nevada were also in the mix.
