Former St. Joe's player to officiate in Final Four

VILLANOVA DIDN'T make it to the Final Four, but Saint Joseph's did.

Jeff Clark, who played on the Hawks' team that went to the Elite Eight in 1981, is among the 10-man officiating crew that will work the national semifinals and final games.

That '81 team went 25-8 under Jim Lynam, in his final year as coach. The Hawks lost to eventual national champion Indiana in the Mideast Regional final. Assistants included Jim Boyle, John Griffin and Brad Greenberg, who helped coach a squad that included Tony Costner, Bryan Warrick, Mark Dearborn and Lonnie McFarlan.

Clark, who played for Frankford High, was All-City in basketball in 1977. That first team also included Gene Banks and Clarence Tillman of West Philadelphia, Reggie Jackson of Roman, Lewis Lloyd of Overbrook, and Fran McCaffery, of La Salle High.

In 1975, Clark played defensive back on a Frankford team that lost to Father Judge, 9-6, in the City title game. Clark booted an 80-yard free kick in that game.

The rest of the Final Four officials are Pat Adams, Joe DeRosa, Pat Driscoll, Mike Eades, Verne Harris, John Higgins, Doug Sirmons, Michael Stephens and Bryan Kersey.

A three-man crew will work each of the semifinal and final games with one serving as a standby for all three.

Georgetown officials aren't happy that students are walking around campus wearing apparel from other universities. So, at an April 11 lacrosse game, they'll set up a booth where non-Hoya gear will be rated by a points system and exchanged for various Georgetown T-shirts.

Villanova and Syracuse stuff will be awarded three points (the highest). Goods from Big East, ACC, Big Ten and Ivy League schools will be worth two. All other college gear will get one.

You'll never see this at 'Nova because no self-respecting Wildcat would even think of wearing something associated with Georgetown.
