No change at the top of College Football Playoff poll

With no upsets in games last weekend, top four positions of the poll remain unchanged.

SINCE NOBODY in the top seven lost last weekend, there wasn't any movement where it matters in the second-to-last College Football Playoff poll.

So if the inaugural four-team playoff field were set today, it would still be Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Mississippi State. TCU remained in front of Ohio State at No. 5, with Baylor holding on to the seventh spot.

Some have speculated that Ohio State might be able to move into fourth should it win out, which would mean winning the Big Ten title game against Minnesota, which it already beat on the road, or Wisconsin. But maybe not.

If Mississippi State wins at Mississippi Saturday, what would that do to hurt its resumé, even if it doesn't get to play in the SEC final? The Bulldogs' loss was at Alabama. Ohio State's loss was way back in early September, at home to Virginia Tech. There's a difference.

As for the two Big 12 schools trying to get in, Baylor would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over TCU if both finish 11-1.

Of course, if MSU loses at Ole Miss, things could get real interesting real fast. Or if Alabama loses at home to Auburn, or if Florida State loses at home to Florida . . .
