Sports in Brief: Auburn reviewing alleged football violations
Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said Thursday the school is reviewing allegations of rules violations in the football program during its 2010 national championship season but doesn't believe they are credible.
In a report by Selena Roberts posted on roopstigo.com, former Auburn players Mike McNeil and Darvin Adams were quoted saying they received or were offered money from coaches. McNeil said he had a grade changed to stay eligible. Former Auburn coach Gene Chizik denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, ESPN reported that synthetic marijuana use by 12 Auburn players in 2010 resulted in failed drug tests and a decision at the highest levels of the athletic department to keep the results confidential.

Cornell wrestler Peter Mesko, 22, of Honesdale, Pa., was charged Tuesday with first-degree rape, police in Ithaca, N.Y., said. He is accused of raping another student off-campus as she slept.

Eugenie Bouchard, 19, defeated former U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur when Stosur withdrew midmatch with apparent right-leg problems.
John Isner will play top-ranked Novak Djokovic in the first match Friday of the Davis Cup quarterfinal between the United States and Serbia in Boise, Idaho. Sam Querrey, the top-ranked American at No. 20, will face Viktor Troicki.
SWIMMING: Lance Armstrong had to withdraw from the Masters South Central Zone Championships in Austin, Texas, this weekend after swimming's international federation raised objections because he has been banned for life from sanctioned Olympic sport competition under the World Anti-Doping Code.
