NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Rutgers University's fired basketball coach is due a $100,000 bonus for lasting through the season.

Mike Rice was dismissed Wednesday after a video was made public of him kicking and shoving players and spewing gay slurs during practices.

He would not be collecting the bonus if he had been fired in December when the university first saw the video and the administration decided only to discipline him.

Rice was paid $622,500 last year under a deal that also included bonuses for winning games and graduating players. His five-year contract called for a $100,000 bonus if he completed the 2012-13 season.

Athletic Department spokesman Jason Baum tells The Associated Press the bonus will be paid because it's contractually obligated.

Maybe they can force him to donate atleast a portion of that money to some sort of Anger Management organization, or a charity for abused children...

And this from the same university that gave you "Snooki" as a guest speaker, and actually expected you to take it serious. I think any school that would actually pay $30,000 to hear that moron speak, and then allow someone like Rice to continue to remain employed despite blatant evidence of him harming children, is really not a place I'd want my kid to go.

He SHOULD be getting that $50,000 he was fined in December...and payment for the three games they suspended him for then, also. THAT was the punishment then, he did it, and then the administration decided to dogpile on him when the public whining started and give him ANOTHER punishment (firing). It's got to be one or the other....not both.

I hope he has legal standing to sue the school for this, also. He complied with the punishment they dealt out in December; this is DOUBLE punishment for one offense.

What is worse than the abuse this sicko loosed on his players, for years, is the defense of his criminal actions (assault is supposed to be against the law) by the usual cretins on the right.
The Faux Nuze liars are leaping to justify, excuse, and diminish the offenses committed by by Rice.
I guess bigotry, brutality, and child abuse ARE the family values that conservatives use to guide their pitiful lives.
