College Basketball: Rollie Massimino entering Hall of Fame

Former Villanova coach Rollie Massimino, who led the Wildcats to the national championship in 1985, and former U.S. congressman Tom McMillen headline the 2013 class that will be inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

Massimino spent 30 years coaching Stony Brook, Villanova, UNLV, and Cleveland State. McMillen starred for Maryland in the 1970s before serving in Congress from 1987-93.

Joining them will be ex-Purdue coach Gene Keady, George Ravling of Nike, Bob Hopkins of Grambling, George Killian of FIBA, and the 1963 NCAA championship team from Loyola of Chicago. The ceremony will be Nov. 23 in Kansas City, Mo.

All-Americans named. Trey Burke of Final Four-bound Michigan and Indiana teammates Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller were among 10 players selected for the John R. Wooden all-American team.

Doug McDermott of Creighton is the only repeat honoree. Oladipo and Zeller are the first teammates to be honored in the same year since 2010, when DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall of Kentucky were on the team.

The rest of the team: Shane Larkin of Miami; Ben McLemore of Kansas; Kelly Olynyk of Gonzaga; Mason Plumlee of Duke; Otto Porter Jr. of Georgetown; and Deshaun Thomas of Ohio State.

Tubby time in Texas. Tubby Smith agreed to terms Monday with Texas Tech to be its next coach. Smith was fired by Minnesota last week after six seasons. Smith is 511-226 (.693) in 22 seasons and his teams have won 20-plus games 19 times. He would be the fourth person to lead Texas Tech in as many seasons. The AP coach of the year with Kentucky in 2003, Smith, 61, has a reputation as a program builder.

Galloway to Atlanta. La Salle's Ramon Galloway will participate in the State Farm college slam dunk and three-point competition at Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Thursday at 7 p.m. The 25th annual event, which will showcase the dunking and sharpshooting talents of 24 of the nation's top college basketball players, will be shown live on ESPN. Galloway helped lead La Salle to its deepest run in the NCAA tournament since it played for the championship title in 1955.

Ex-Penn Wood star up for grabs. Sophomore guard Aaron Brown has received his release papers from West Virginia and will begin the process to transfer to another school.

The former Penn Wood star and Darby native appeared in just 17 games this past season while averaging 1.2 points per game. His production fell greatly from his freshman season.

"I'm not going to stick around if I'm not going to be playing," Brown told West Virginia Illustrated.

No replay regrets. The chairman of CBS Sports had no regrets about banning further replays of Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware's gruesome broken leg and says if anyone wants to watch it on the Internet, that's fine.

CBS aired two quick replays Sunday from a wide enough distance for viewers to see the leg land awkwardly, but not any blood or bone. It hasn't been shown since on CBS.

"I've seen statistics on the millions of views this piece of footage has had on YouTube and I have no problem with that," Sean McManus said. The network received praise for restraint, although McManus said he knew people would say CBS should have shown it more.
