College Basketball: Boeheim gets 900th career win

Boeheim, 68 and in his 37th year at his alma mater, is 900-304 with the Orange and joined an elite fraternity. Mike Krzyzewski (936) and Bob Knight (902) are the only other men's Division I coaches to win that many games.

James Southerland had 22 points for Syracuse (10-0), which increased its home winning streak to 30 games, longest in the nation.

Blue Devils on top. Duke is back in a familiar place - No. 1.

The Blue Devils (9-0) advanced one spot to replace Indiana at the top of the Associated Press' top 25, drawing closer to UCLA's record for most No. 1 rankings. It is the 123d week Duke has been ranked No. 1, 11 weeks behind UCLA.

Indiana (9-1) held the top spot from the preseason poll through the first five weeks of the season. Butler beat the Hoosiers, 88-86, Saturday.

The Blue Devils, whose only game in the last 21/2 weeks was a victory over Temple on Dec. 8, received 62 first-place votes from the 65-member panel.

Big Five honors. The Big Five honored junior guard James Bell of Villanova as the player of the week. Senior center Victoria Macaulay of Temple was named the women's player of the week.
