Women's College Basketball: St. Joe's rallies; Drexel cruises

The St. Joseph's women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak as the Hawks topped Sacred Heart, 63-54, Saturday afternoon at Hagan Arena.

Down by five at halftime, the Hawks (3-3) rallied to outscore the Pioneers, 37-23, in the second half to earn their second home win of the year.

The Pioneers (4-1) would get no closer than seven points as St. Joseph's grabbed several key offensive rebounds and hit 5 of 6 from the line to seal the win.

Erin Shield (Archbishop Carroll) led the Hawks for the second straight game, tallying 12 points to go with four rebounds and three assists.

Drexel 71, Pittsburgh 50 - Four Dragons reached double figures as Drexel (3-1) romped past the host Panthers. The Dragons led nearly the entire game, with Kamile Nacickaite leading all scorers with 23 points. Tyler Hale finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds, the first double-double of the year for the Dragons.

Hollie Mershon (Archbishop Carroll), who finished with 13 points, got seven of those in the second half to help keep the Drexel offense moving.

Villanova 77, University of the Sciences 44 - The host Wildcats (4-2) set a season-high with 15 three-point baskets in beating the Devils.

Villanova's Lindsay Kimmel led all scorers with a season-best 15 points. Laura Sweeney (Cherokee) pulled down eight boards and dished out four assists and Emily Leer (Abington) had four rebounds and three steals.

The Devils were led by Carolyn Edwards (St. Basil) with 11 points. Isabella Ross (Central) came off the bench to grab five boards.

St. John's 59, Temple 53 - Despite a 12-point lead midway through the first half, the Owls struggled in the second half and lost to the Red Storm in Temple's final game at the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas. The loss is the fourth straight for Temple (2-4), while St. John's improves to 3-3.

Richard Stockton 72, Trinity 58 - Lauren Alwan (Timber Creek) had a double-double of 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds (with four steals). LaTonya Oliver (Overbrook) also chalked up a double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Oliver now has 989 career points. Aliyah Nelson (St. Joseph) contributed 15 points, and Aspen Price-Perry (Lindenwold) had 14, along with a game-best six assists as the Ospreys topped the Tigers in the Trinity Thanksgiving Classic in San Antonio, Texas.

Goldey-Beacom 66, Kutztown 55 - The Lightning went inside to Akilah Sewell early and often, and she cashed in for game-highs of 23 points and 17 rebounds to lead Goldey-Beacom (4-2) past the Golden Bears (1-5) at the Jones Center.
