Widener keeps rolling it up

National: Landry Jones threw for an Oklahoma record 505 yards in a 41-point win at previously unbeaten Kansas State.

Local: Widener (8-1), in the snow, won at Albright, 60-20, the fifth straight game it has scored at least 50 points.

AROUND TOWN

BROWN 6, PENN 0

In a driving rain, the visiting Quakers (4-3, 3-1 Ivy) saw their 18-game Ivy winning streak, the second-longest in league history, come to an end.

They hadn't been shut out since 1997, a string of 136 games, also second-longest ever in the Ivies. The Bears (6-1, 3-1) own the record, now at 155 and counting.

It was Brown's second straight home shutout, the first time that's happened in 26 years.

Alexander Norocea kicked a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 42-yarder on the last play of the third.

Brown has won five straight. The Quakers had won their last four.

Both teams had under 200 yards of offense. Penn, which passed for 32, had five turnovers. The Quakers missed a field goal on their only trip inside the Brown 20, in the first period. Penn got possession at the Brown 47 with 2 1/2 minutes left and no timeouts, but Brown intercepted on the first play.

The Quakers had won their last 12 on the road in the Ivies, which tied a program record.

They still can get a share of their third consecutive title, (last done by Dartmouth in the early 1990s), if they win out. That includes a trip to Harvard (6-1, 4-0) on Nov. 12. This week they host Princeton (1-6, 1-3).

MAINE 41, VILLANOVA 25

The Black Bears (7-1, 5-0 CAA), ranked eighth in FCS, won their sixth straight and posted their highest point total of the season. It was 28-6 with 4 1/2 minutes to go in the third quarter.

The Wildcats (1-8, 0-6), who didn't start a senior on Senior Day, have lost five straight. They had one more first down (19-18) than Maine, and won the time of possession by over 3 minutes.

True freshman Chris Polony was 10-for-20 for 198 yards ( most by a Wildcat this year) with three touchdowns and a pick. Redshirt freshman Austin Medley rushed for 100 yards (also a team season-best) on 17 carries.

Now the Wildcats head to Massachusetts (5-3, 3-2), which is moving up to FBS and the MAC next year, before getting a week off to get ready for Delaware at Chester's PPL Park on Nov. 19.

Temple

The Owls (5-3, 3-2 MAC East) are off until Wednesday night at Ohio University (5-3, 2-2) But they got an early Halloween treat anyway when Bowling Green (4-5, 2-3), which controlled its fate in the MAC East, somehow found a way to lose at now 2-6 (1-3 MAC) Kent State, 27-15, after it had just upset Temple.

FRAUD FIVE

-- Texas Tech: Shouldn't be losing to Iowa State at home, but especially not by 41-7 the week after you won at Oklahoma.

-- Kansas State: Always OK to lose to Oklahoma, even at home. But maybe not by 41, especially when you haven't lost yet.

-- Clemson: It's OK to lose at Georgia Tech, which had lost two straight. But try not to be down by 21 at the half.

-- Iowa: I guess someone has to lose at Minnesota, but it probably shouldn't be this team.

-- Syracuse: Shouldn't be losing 27-10 at Louisville, the week after you blew out West Virginia at home.

-- And I know Maryland stinks, but so does Boston College. And Maryland was home.

SEE YA

Not that long ago, a lot of folks were worried that there were too many unbeatens, and we were headed for BCS chaos. Well, maybe we'll still have that, but it probably will be because of too many once-beatens.

Two weeks ago Illinois, Michigan and Georgia Tech lost for the first time. Last week it was Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Now, add Clemson and Kansas State.

That leaves six, including non-BCSers Boise State and Houston. Either LSU or Alabama will lose this week.

Oklahoma State just keeps scoring, as does Stanford, which for the first time in 11 games didn't beat someone by at least 25. But the Cardinal did win their 16th straight, a terrific triple-overtimer at USC that didn't end until midnight our time.

OSU, by the way, is 8-0 for only the second time. The other was 1945, when it went 9-0 and then won the Sugar Bowl.

THUMBS UP

For the first time since he was paralyzed last October making a tackle in a game against Army, Rutgers player Eric LeGrand led the Scarlet Knights onto the field on his motorized wheelchair against West Virginia.

"I can't even explain it," he said. "It was a very emotional moment."

He has been working for the Rutgers radio network as an analyst, and was also in the ABC booth for part of this game.

-- Virginia Tech has won a record 11 straight ACC road games.

-- For the third time this year, Texas A&M lost a game in which it held a double-digit halftime lead.

-- Georgia beat Florida for the fourth time in the last 22 meetings, third in 11 under Mark Richt and first since 2007.

-- Florida has lost four straight for the first time in 23 years, and went winless in October for the first time since going 0-10-1 in 1979.

-- USC played an OT game for the first time since losing in three OTs to Cal in 2003.

-- Kansas had 46 total yards in a 43-0 loss at Texas.
