Former Villanova basketball star Dante Cunningham was arrested Friday after a traffic stop in Radnor Township and faces marijuana and drug-paraphernalia charges, township police said.
Responding to a call about a reckless driver, police stopped him along Lancaster Avenue and allegedly detected the smell of marijuana inside the car. They then searched the car and allegedly found a small amount of the drug, a pipe and a pellet gun, the possession of which violates a township ordinance.
Besides marijuana possession, he was charged with having the pellet gun and a vehicle-equipment violation, police said.
Cunningham, 24, a power forward, was a second-round draft choice of the Portland Trailblazers in the 2009 NBA draft. He was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats in February. He was among the senior leaders on the Villanova team that made it to the 2009 NCAA Final Four.
