College Basketball: Seton Hall shocks Syracuse

The loss was the third straight for Syracuse (18-3, 5-3 Big East), which had lost two straight to top-10 conference foes - on the road at Pittsburgh and at home to Villanova on Saturday.

Seton Hall (9-12, 3-6), the worst-shooting team in the Big East, finished 10 of 17 from beyond the three-point arc, and shot 54.1 percent for the game.

Elsewhere: Playing on its home court, top-ranked Ohio State had no problem against No. 12 Purdue, winning, 84-64. . . . No. 23 Florida shook off host Georgia, winning, 104-91, in double overtime.

Gophers' Nolen out for year. Minnesota point guard Al Nolen will have surgery Wednesday to place a pin in his broken right foot, and his return before the end of the season is uncertain.

 In the area: Delaware Valley beat host Penn State-Abington, 99-89, behind the efforts of Jeremy Beckett, who notched career-highs of 27 points and 22 rebounds for Aggies (12-6). Penn State-Abington dropped to 2-15. . . . Philadelphia University beat host University of the Sciences, 71-61, in a conference game. Nick Christian led the Rams (10-6, 5-2 CACC) with 19 points. Tyrone Mann-Barnes had 16 for the Devils (8-6, 4-4). . . . Chestnut Hill scored 58 points in the second half to beat visiting Wilmington, 91-78. The Griffins improved to 6-10, 3-5 CACC. The Wildcats fell to 6-11, 4-5.

Achievements. Lebanon Valley College junior Joe Meehan (St. Joseph's Prep) was named the Commonwealth Conference player of the week for the second time this season. . . . Two Philadelphia University basketball players have been ranked at the top of two NCAA Division II categories. Sophomore guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) leads in free-throw shooting percentage with 95.2 percent. Junior center Temi Adebayo, a 7-0 transfer from St. Joseph's University, leads with 3.8 blocks for game.

Women

Georgetown 65, West Virginia 60 - Sugar Rodgers scored 30 points as host No. 19 Georgetown topped No. 8 West Virginia for the Hoyas' second win over a top 10 team this season.

The come-from-behind win improved the Hoyas' record to 16-5, 4-3 Big East, while the Mountaineers dropped to 19-2, 5-2.

Elsewhere: Visiting DePaul rolled to a 67-48 win against Big East rival Cincinnati. Sam Quigley had 23 points for the No. 12 Blue Demons (20-2, 7-0). The Bearcats dropped to 8-11, 1-6.

In the area: University of the Sciences swamped visiting Philadelphia University, 67-59, for the Devils' sixth straight win. Caitlin Shaw scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Devils (12-4, 8-2 CACC). Kate Brennan led Philadelphia (8-7, 4-4) with 20 points. . . . Host Chestnut Hill beat Wilmington, 66-55. The Griffins improved to 6-11, 4-6 CACC. The Wildcats fell to 2-16, 2-9 CACC.
