Ryan Laughlin, a strong-armed quarterback from Cardinal O'Hara, has orally committed to play for Holy Cross.

"The Holy Cross coaches are great, and they've stayed in contact throughout the recruiting process," said the 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior. "Academically, it's a top-notch school."

Last season, Laughlin passed for 1,560 yards and 17 touchdowns to help the Lions post a 9-2 record and advance to the Catholic League Class AAA championship game. The second-year starter was an Inquirer first-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection.

Holy Cross is coached by Tom Gilmore, who last week agreed to a three-year contract extension. In seven seasons with the Crusaders, the North Catholic and Penn graduate has a 45-33 overall record and 25-16 mark in the Patriot League.

"He's a very intense guy on the field," Laughlin said. "Off the field, he's a guy who will do anything for his players."

Laughlin, of Glen Mills, took an official visit to Holy Cross in December. The 18-year-old, who was a part-time strong safety for O'Hara, also had offers from Lafayette, Lehigh, and Bucknell.

Also bound for Holy Cross is Downingtown East senior Pat Restrepo, a 6-3, 245-pound offensive lineman.

West Chester Rustin offensive lineman Chase Hoyt and Malvern Prep tight end Sean Mooney are ticketed for Maine and Towson, respectively.
