Toby Gerhart turned what could be Charlie Weis' final game as Notre Dame coach into his own Heisman Trophy infomercial.

Gerhart ran for 205 yards and three scores, threw an 18-yard touchdown pass, and scored the game-winning touchdown with 59 seconds left to help Stanford hand Weis and the Fighting Irish a fourth straight loss to end the regular season, 45-38, last night in Stanford, Calif.

On a night when Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate put on an aerial show for the Irish (6-6) in a showcase for Weis' offense, it was Gerhart who won the game for Stanford (8-4) and possibly earned a trip to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist in two weeks.

He threw his touchdown pass to Ryan Whalen on fourth and 4 to help the Cardinal tie the game early in the fourth quarter, and then won it with his 4-yard TD run in the final minute.

At 6-6, Notre Dame can't be offered an at-large bowl bid if there are any available teams with winning records.

Connecticut 56 Syracuse 31 - The tailback tandem of Jordan Todman and Andre Dixon combined for 196 yards rushing and four touchdowns as the Huskies (6-5 overall, 2-4 Big East) hammered the Orange (4-8, 1-6) in East Hartford, Conn., to become bowl-eligible.

UConn, which lost three in a row after the stabbing death of cornerback Jasper Howard, went over .500 for the first time since the Oct. 18 tragedy. The Huskies' five losses came by a total of 15 points.

Boston College 19, Maryland 17 - Montel Harris ran for 142 yards, Dave Shinskie threw a 66-yard touchdown pass, and the Eagles (8-4, 5-3 ACC) edged the Terps (2-10, 1-7) in College Park. The defeat sealed Maryland's first 10-loss season.

Elsewhere: Missouri had 553 total yards but needed a safety with 2 minutes, 39 seconds left and Grant Ressel's 27-yard field goal as time expired to edge Kansas, 41-39, in Kansas City. . . . Riley Skinner passed for a career-high 372 yards and a school-record five touchdowns to help Wake Forest defeat Duke, 45-34, in Durham, N.C. . . . Alex Zendejas kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired as Arizona defeated Arizona State, 20-17, in Tempe. . . . Taylor Potts threw a pair of touchdown passes to Lyle Leong less than two minutes apart as Texas Tech topped Baylor, 20-13, in Arlington, Texas.

Jake Locker threw for 196 yards and a touchdown as Washington posted its first shutout of rival Washington State in 45 years with a 30-0 win in Seattle. . . . Montario Hardesty ran for three touchdowns, including a 20-yard game-winner in overtime, as Tennessee outlasted Kentucky, 30-24, in Lexington for the Vols' 25th straight victory against their border rivals.
