Irish's Clausen sporting black eye after 'sucker punch'
According to a university official who spoke on condition of anonymity, Clausen was punched outside a South Bend, Ind., bar early Sunday morning.
Athletic director Jack Swarbrick said Clausen was the "victim of a sucker punch."
Clausen and a group he was with decided to leave P.J.'s Pub after words were exchanged with others at the bar.
The official said someone followed them outside and punched Clausen, who did not fight back.
Coach Charlie Weis said Clausen would practice would this week and start Saturday against Stanford (7-4). Clausen was not available to comment.
In other college news:
* Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio dismissed sophomore running back Glenn Winston and safety Roderick Jenrette from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules. It is not known if the dismissals are related to an alleged fight in a university dormitory on Sunday night. Winston was suspended from the team last year and spent 4 months in jail for his role in a fight that left Michigan State hockey player A.J. Sturges seriously injured.
* Three lacrosse players at Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, Conn., have been charged with conspiring to sexually assault a female student in a dorm room. Attorney Wayne Keeney said his client, Timothy Sanders, of Ashburn, Va., was having consensual sex with an 18-year-old woman when two teammates, Nicholas Travers and Zachari Triner sneaked in as a prank. All three men were charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree sexual assault, according to a Connecticut court Web site.

* Al Golden is one of three finalists for the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, which is presented by the Maxwell Football Club. The others are Cincinnati's Brian Kelly and Texas Christian's Gary Patterson. The winner will be announced on Dec. 15.

* Roger Federer rallied to beat Andy Murray, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, at the ATP World Tour Finals in London, to clinch the year-end No. 1 ranking for the fifth time. Federer's win ensures he cannot be overtaken by second-ranked Rafael Nadal.
