La Salle holds off Tulane, 61-59

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Rodney Green was 4 for 4 from the foul line in the final 48 seconds, and La Salle held on to beat Tulane, 61-59, today in the third round of the Charleston Classic.

"I think this is the kind of win that allows you to potentially have a good season," La Salle coach John Giannini said. "You're not going to play well every night. We did a lot of things poorly and still managed to win against a quality opponent."

Kimmani Barrett finished with 14 points to lead La Salle (3-1) and Green finished with 13.

Kris Richard led Tulane (1-3) with 17 points.

The Green Wave had the final possession, but Kevin Sims missed a wide-open three-point shot at the buzzer.

"We were just playing our normal defense," Giannini said, "The next thing you know the ball winds up out there for an open three. We were lucky he didn't hit it."

The game was close throughout, as La Salle's biggest lead was six points and Tulane's was four points. La Salle led by 28-26 at halftime and both teams scored 33 points in the second half.

La Salle opened the tournament with a 78-68 loss to South Carolina on Thursday, then beat Davidson, 84-70, in Friday's second round.
