Bowman ponders NFL draft
Penn State Notes
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Linebacker Navorro Bowman was not one of the 17 seniors introduced before Penn State's final 2009 home game, but he, too, might have played for the last time at Beaver Stadium yesterday.
Bowman, a redshirt junior scheduled to graduate in December, is ranked 13th among all players in the Scouts Inc. listing on ESPN.com, meaning he would likely be a first-round pick should he enter the NFL draft.
"It's a great choice to have to make," Bowman said after the Nittany Lions' 31-20 win over Indiana. "I want to sit down with my parents and think over what might be my best choice."
Bowman, who returned an interception 73 yards for a touchdown yesterday, indicated that he would likely come out if he received assurances that he would be drafted in the first round.
Drake's day
Curtis Drake, a freshman wide receiver from West Catholic, made the most of his lengthy playing time following Chaz Powell's first-quarter shoulder injury.
The 5-foot-11, 169-pound Drake set up Penn State's first touchdown with a 26-yard run on an end-around, a play extended by 13 yards because of a face-mask penalty. He also caught a 28-yard pass from Daryll Clark on the Lions' final touchdown drive.
Emotional day
Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley has watched linebacker Sean Lee and end Jerome Hayes, both seniors, recover from devastating knee injuries - two, in Hayes' case.
So it was an emotional scene in the locker room before the Senior Day game when Bradley talked to them.
"I told them thanks for everything and I appreciate the effort, hard work, and dedication to this football team," Bradley said. "It means a lot to me."
