College Basketball: Thomas falls in his debut
Deon Thompson scored 20 points to help No. 6 North Carolina spoil Isiah Thomas' college coaching debut and beat Florida International by 88-72 at home in the 2K Sports Classic.
Ed Davis added 13 points for the defending national champion Tar Heels, who had little trouble with the undersize Golden Panthers.
Elsewhere: Kalin Lucas had 18 points and Draymond Green added 15 points and 11 rebounds in No. 2 Michigan State's final exhibition game, a 76-53 victory over Grand Valley State at home. . . .
