AROUND TOWN
C. Michigan 24, Temple 14
The Owls trailed 14-0 early in the second quarter. It was 17-14 at the half.
Central Michigan's Brian Brunner threw a 37-yard TD pass to Bryan Anderson early in the fourth period. Brunner came in for Dan LeFevour (ankle injury) early in the second quarter.
LeFevour, the 2007 Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was 10-for-11 for 106 yards and two scores before he went out. Brunner, a senior who had thrown one pass this season, went 7-for-13 for 136 yards.
Temple is 2-5, 1-3. The Chippewas, your two-time defending MAC champs, are 4-2, 3-0.
Temple's Chester Stewart was intercepted three times. Adam DiMichele (shoulder) did at least dress. He's hoping to be back for Ohio (2-6, 1-3) on Oct. 21 at the Linc.
This was the first time the Owls allowed a score in the opening 15 minutes.
Bruce Francis had a TD catch, the 16th of his career, which ties him with Willie Marshall (1983-86) for second in TU history. Gerald Lucear (1978-81) is first, with 18.
The good news is, nobody in the MAC East has a winning record. Only Bowling Green (3-3, 1-1) is an even .500. Temple goes to Navy (3-2) on Nov. 1. Then the Owls visit Kent State (1-6, 0-2), before finishing at home against Eastern Michigan (2-5) and Akron (3-4, 1-2).
Penn 27, Georgetown 7
The Quakers (2-2), who won their second straight, are .500 for the first time since the end of the 2006 season.
Chris Wynn ran the opening kickoff back 88 yards for a TD. Freshman Matt Hamscher rushed for 102 yards in his debut. Andrew Samson kicked two field goals.
The Hoyas (1-4) lost their fourth straight. Last week's home game against visiting Colgate was canceled due to a virus that was going around campus.
It was 17-0 at intermission. Georgetown scored with 6 minutes left in the game.
