Lions gain two more recruits

Penn State landed its 13th and 14th football recruits from the Class of 2009.

Adam Gress, an offensive tackle from West Mifflin, Pa., committed yesterday, and Curtis Dukes, a running back from Philadelphia, N.Y., gave the Nittany Lions the nod on Tuesday, according to Blue and White Illustrated.

Gress is rated a three-star prospect by the Web site Rivals.com. He chose Penn State over West Virginia, and also had scholarship offers from Michigan and Rutgers.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Dukes had offers from Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Temple and Buffalo. - Jeff McLane

Matt Stairs, who has played for 11 teams in 16 years, looks as if he belongs in a beer league. He turned 40 in February. He's what you'd call a situational hitter. The situation last night: tie game, eighth inning, with a need for a lefthanded bat.
