Terps beat Temple; Duke, Wildcats win

Berkley Summerline scored three goals, but Temple fell to third-seeded Maryland, 20-7, yesterday in an NCAA women's lacrosse tournament game in College Park, Md.

Temple's Whitney Richards scored twice and finished with 78 points for the season.

Elsewhere, Duke upset Georgetown, 10-8, in Washington, while top-seeded Northwestern beat visiting Notre Dame, 15-7. Katie Rowan scored five goals and set a tournament record with 13 points to lead host Syracuse over Towson, 21-9.

North Carolina upset host Virginia, 11-7, while Boston University advanced past visiting New Hampshire, 16-8, and host Princeton beat Vanderbilt, 14-10.

Peter Christman's goal with 1 minute, 28 seconds left in overtime gave host Notre Dame an 8-7 first-round victory over Colgate.

Host Johns Hopkins earned a 10-4 victory over Hofstra in Baltimore.

In games last night, host Virginia edged Maryland-Baltimore County, 10-9, and Syracuse pounded visiting Canisius, 20-3.
