Scoop Jardine breaks foot in predraft workout

POSTED: Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 3:35 PM

Scoop Jardine’s timing could not have been worse.

The former Neumann-Goretti and Syracuse guard was scheduled for surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles after breaking his right foot during a workout with the Utah Jazz last Friday, his final workout scheduled before Thursday’s NBA draft.

Jardine, already a long shot to be drafted, landed on the foot of Mississippi State guard Dee Bost.

“I came down and it just popped,’’ Jardine told the Syracuse Post-Standard. “I tried to finish the workout and I couldn’t put any pressure on it. They shut me down.’’

Rehab is expected to take 6 to 8 weeks and he is hopeful to return in late August or early September. The injury will not allow him to play in the NBA summer leagues, which could have provided an opportunity for training camp invitation.

He averaged 8.6 points and 4.8 assists per game for Syracuse last season.
