Tuesday Night Fights debuts at 2300 Arena

Fred Jenkins Jr. and National Golden Gloves champ Christian Carto are among the local talent featured tonight.

IN WHAT ITS organizers plan to make a monthly event, Tuesday Night Fights at South Philadelphia's 2300 Arena kicks off at 7 o'clock tonight with a slate of five pro and four amateur bouts.

North Philly's Fred Jenkins Jr. (7-1, 2 knockouts), the son of a longtime local trainer, fights Baltimore's Jeremy Trussell (8-1-1, 6 KOs) in a middleweight six-rounder to headline the card.

Sicklerville, N.J., native Robert Sweeney (2-0) and Keith Downs (2-0) face off in a four-round middleweight fight. Junior lightweight Avery Sparrow and junior middleweight Donte Wright are set to make their pro debuts.

National Golden Gloves champ Christian Carto, of Deptford, N.J., meets Washington's Dante Brown in the featured amateur fight, a three-round, 110-pound bout.

Joe Hand Promotions and D and D Management are putting on the event, for which tickets can be purchased at 2300arena.com or by calling 215-364-9000. The recently reopened and renovated venue is located at 2300 S. Swanson St.
