Philly's Cartagena wins national title

Philadelphia's Miguel Cartagena won the USA Boxing National Championships in the light flyweight division with a 7-5 decision over Garen Rabellizsa, of Waianae, Hawaii, on Saturday in Denver.

Cartagena, the national Golden Gloves champion, is the first 16-year-old to win both the Golden Gloves and USA Boxing national titles in the same year since Gary Russell Jr. in 2005.

Cartagena and the other champions will have the opportunity to compete in the world championships in Milan, Italy, in late August.

The only other Philadelphian to make the championship round was middleweight Jesse Hart, who fought Terrell Gausha, of Cleveland. Gausha ended up winning the bout when Hart was disqualified for holding. *
