For the second time in as many days, the Eagles have made a trade, acquiring Antwan Barnes from the Ravens in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

This afternoon (by 6 p.m.), the Birds will have to trim their roster to 53 players, so the obvious question is: Whose spot will Barnes take?

I posted my roster projection yesterday and had the Eagles keeping nine defensive linemen and six linebackers.

I don't think the addition of Barnes will cost any of the defensive linemen a job.

But linebacker could be a different story. The Eagles tried Moise Fokou at defensive end at training camp and in the preseason. It sure sounds like Barnes could now fill that hybrid-type role, and he has played special teams with the Ravens. Barnes had 23 career sacks at Florida International.

I still think the Eagles like Fokou, but there might not be a spot for him.

The Eagles could also make a move at another position. I had them keeping six wide receivers, including Kelley Washington, but they could decide to just go with five, meaning Washington would be gone.

Or the Barnes addition could cost one of the safeties a job. I had them keeping both Macho Harris and Quintin Demps, but certainly one of those two could get cut. I still think Harris has the edge over Demps there.

It is a stressful time for players, but we'll know who's staying and who's going in the next few hours.

Great objective reporting, Shiel. I agree with your roster projection. Let's see if Andrews gets moved . . .

Sheil, trading Stacy for a conditional 2011/2012 pick would be an addition through subtraction kind of maneuver, even if it is no better than a 6/7 that we get back because it would allow us to keep Fokou, who apparently has enough talent to intrigue the coaches and may just need a little more time before he blossoms. Also, If we go with 2 TEs, then I think Washington and Baskett both make it.

I like the roster moves. no one is safe. everybody has to earn their way on the team ( unless they are a high draft pick!)

I want the eagles to keep Macho and Demps and cut kelly washington. Macho can play CB and FS which gives him alot of leverage and Demps better be your kick returner because I dont like Hobbs returning kicks. I hope the eagles cut washington and move stacy andrews so barnes and wells can take those 2 spots.

I don't think they add a third TE. I think they use Cooper in the role that Ingram was going to occupy. Washington is a luxury. Barnes could be replacing Tapp. Reid has shown that he is not afraid to cut a player he didn't draft or pay big bucks to. Its also possible that Herremans is not as healthy as they say. The guard fro the Cards could be here to fill in for Todd. Say goodbye to MJG. He isn't the athletic OG that Reid wants on his Oline.

Cutting Kafka would not be a waste. He won't even be activated in 2010 and no one will pick him up, why would they? Cutting Omar Gaither wouldn't surprise. He's usually hurt after any extended playing time, cannot play special teams and contributes very little when on the field. He saulks very well though. Seems like a good candidate for the Giants.

So who are we looking at as a 4th Safety possibility since we only have 3 right now?

True, Macho didn't improve, Demps was too skittish and Andrews has a valid grip about not being acquired to play guard, however, if he was good enough, he'd be playing tackle. Keeping the pot stirred allows no one to get too comfortable and full of himself. I'd like to see a veteran safety and tight end brought in. Oh, put Mallett on the practice squad because he showed he can play, just not yet.
