Villanova’s quest to return to the Final Four begins Thursday when the surprisingly second-seeded Wildcats take on 15th-seeded Robert Morris in the first round of the South Region of the NCAA Tournament in Providence, R.I.

Robert Morris (21-11) won the Northeast Conference Tournament.

The winner meets either Richmond or St. Mary’s on Saturday.

'Nova (24-7) fell to Marquette in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament and has won just two of its last seven games.

"You can see they have great respect for our program over a period of time, not just this season," coach Jay Wright said. "We’re really, really excited to get this thing going.”

The Wildcats are making their sixth straight trip to the Big Dance under Wright. They have gone 11-5 in the NCAAs since 2005 and advanced to their fourth Final Four in program history last season in Detroit.

If 'Nova wants to make it five, Scottie Reynolds is once again going to have to carry the team on his back. "We always play for the players that came before us," Reynolds said. "They put us in a great posititon to be here today. We hope they keep following us to Providence and further than that.”

The senior guard is averaging 18.5 points per game and 3.3 assists per game, while shooting almost 40 percent from three-point range. However, he’s struggled in his last two games, shooting a combined 9-for-26 from the field, including 3-for-14 from beyond the arc.

Said senior guard Reggie Redding: “It’s up to us to show them we deserved it. It’s really incredible. I don’t think there will be any more pressure than if we were any other seed. The pressure is in the game. We’ve been in a lot of pressure moments. If you can’t handle it, then you can’t play at this level. It’s a new season for us. We can’t sob over the losses we had recently. We have to put that behind us.”

hard to believe you could collapse down the stretch and still be a #2 seed.... but then again, look at the #3 seeds and which of them are you going to put above the wildcats?.. its a really weak region...the committe must really want duke in the final 4... i really like nova's chances to get to the elite 8 based upon the other teams there...and who knows, a team like texas a&m based upon what i saw in matchups against kansas, could take out Duke... if not, would love for nova to wipe that snarl off Coach k's face

Nova (way overrated)will be lucky to get passed Robert Morris. Nova is an NIT team who can not play with any top ten team. Nova are a bunch of pansies and choke artist!!!!!!

Yo jpelle36.......couldn't get into Nova huh?? Yeah, I'm a Nova fan, but more than that, I'm a Big Five Philly fan..I'm tickled that Temple is doing so well. I would have loved to see Martelli get in too!! I'll be rooting for Dunphy and the Owls as well as the 'Cats. I hope people appreciate how hard it is to get to the tourney regardless of your affiliation and root for philly

jpelle36, Nova got a #2 by beating Maryland, Georgetown, West Virginia, Marquette and Louisville. All teams in the tournament. Play a tough schedule and you get the benefit. I thought they would be a 3 or 4.

Isn't it Villanova? Does everything have to be shortened for e-mails and Tweets?

When you lose to Pitt (3 seed), Syracuse (1 seed), and split against WVU (2 seed) and Georgetown (3 seed), it also makes Nova's seeding understandable.

Nova should have been a 4 at best. I guess that's what losing 5 out of 7 down the stretch will get you. Temple at a 5 was almost as big a joke. At worst they should have been a 4. Hawk18 - you fail to mention that Nova also lost to 3 of the 4 teams you mentioned.

Nova getting the two seed is a total farce. One of the most overrated two seeds in the history of the tournament. Jay Rigggght must be thanking his lucky stars now.

Go 'Cats it's yours for the taking. Couldn't ask for a better seeding or a better region. Remember what we did to Duke last year. Ol' Blue Devil Seth Davis is afraid of VU!!!

Hawk18. Intelligent, well thought out comment without school bias. You must be on the wrong site. I am a Nova fan but am also rooting for the Owls and am waiting for Martelli to get back into the tournament. It is not necessarily about one school but Philly ball.

I'm a U of Penn alum, and I do root for all the Big 5 Schools; I have since I was a kid. Nova did catch a major break, and we'll see what they do with it. They were ranked perhaps generously #10 coming into the Big East tourney and then, of course, lost to Marquette in their first game there. A 4 seed, with how they've placed down the stretch would have been very fair.
