The final Eagles penalty breakdown
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Throughout the season, we kept track of the Eagles' penalty count, broken down player-by-player.
We didn't get to this the last few weeks of the season so I wanted to present the final numbers.
Below you can find that list, but first some notes:
* The Eagles finished fourth-worst with 115 penalties in the NFL during the regular season. They were middle of the pack (14th-worst) with 789 penalty yards.
* Of the 10 teams with the fewest penalty yards, only two made the playoffs. Of the 10 teams with the fewest penalties, three made the playoffs.
* Of the 10 teams with the most penalties, seven made the playoffs. Of the 10 teams with the most penalty yards, four made the playoffs.
* Through the first 12 weeks of the season, the defense had 210 penalty yards. From Week 13 on, the D had 258 penalty yards.
* Jason Peters led the team in both penalties and penalty yards (11 for 178). Asante Samuel finished third in both categories with seven for 66.
* Impressive output from Jamaal Jackson. Just one penalty for 5 yards before going down in the Broncos game in Week 16.

so basically, penalties don't figure in the playoffs or W-L. jjk3
That's fascinating. The playoff teams tend to commit the most penalties. So being high in penalties is not necessarily a bad sign. It's a complex situation. soulman386

Comment removed.- Interesting that Stacy Andrews managed to rack up 5 penalties in his limited playing time... Zherog
Come on people, grow some intellect...penalties are NOT necessarily bad and TEND to exemplify aggressiveness...THAT sounds like why playoff teams TEND to have more penalties than teams that don't...This isn't rocket science...Next thing you know, you're gonna say #5 will lead the team to a Super Bowl... will_wonders_never_cease
Sheil: Please mention the total number of plays as well. The SPECIAL team seemed to have too many penalties considering the few times they are on the field. Seed
It's harder to pass protect than it is to run block ... Penalties on the OL are going to happen more often when everybody knows your tendency is to throw.. MJPD345- STATS has Peters with 9 penalties for 68 yards, not that it matters much...
- will_wonders_never_cease "Come on people, grow some intellect...This isn't rocket science...Next thing you know, you're gonna say #5 will lead the team to a Super Bowl..." He already has led them to a Super Bowl. Man talk about growing some "intellect"!

So did peters get 1 or 2 million per penalty this year? Luriesucks
Next year, if y'all get a chance to put the other team's qb on the sideline with a blind-side hit (see Warner vs. N.O.Saints), DO IT! ItalianSausage
Special Team penalties are only for how many yards were walked off, not for how many they cost team in returns, etc. Some penalties are why big returns happen, but some have nothing to do with the outcome of the play. Then there are the horrible calls added in to all three units, and we know that peters could have been flagged for another half dozen just the last 3 games. AsValidAsYours
"He already has led them to a Super Bowl." How'd that turn out? JamesJ
