Shortstop Jimmy Rollins left Wednesday's game with what the Phillies are calling "right hamstring tightness" in the third inning.

Rollins, who has already missed 59 games this season due to a right calf strain and bruised left foot, was visibly upset upon entering the dugout after scoring a run in the third. He sat on the bench with his head down talking to head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan. A few seconds later, he stood up, ripped off his skull cap and headed down the tunnel back to the clubhouse.

It appeared as if Rollins suffered the injury running between first and second base on his two-out double. Strangely, Rollins didn't slide on what was a close play. As he met first-base coach Davey Lopes to hand off his foot guard, Rollins grimaced and walked gingerly.

He scored on a single to left by Carlos Ruiz two batters later. He practically limped home and scored with a well-timed slide.

Rollins is hitting .240 with a .685 OPS this season, both of which would be career lows. But he has recently thrived hitting further down in Charlie Manuel's lineup.

More to come.

Thought the same thing UncleEddie. If this is one of the other two injuries back to bother him, that will be a huge problem in the remaining 21 (after tonight) games. Everybody cross fingers!!

damn, Jimmy just can't buy a break this year....let's hope this is just a tweak, and nothing long term. Valdez is good enough in the field, and even with Jimmy having a down year due to the injuries, he's still not going to be able to replace him.

Philly_Mike, I agree. MLB and 2nd base are obviously colluding against our Phillies! Jayson Werth's chronic pick offs just add to the torment.

It can't be a full pulled muscle. He was slow coming home but was taking somewhat normal strides so I'm hoping it was just a tweak. in general, its a shame Jimmy is so opposed to coming out of the leadoff spot. As small as he is he seems like a natural fit for the 5th or 6th spot. It just seems to work. I hope uncle charlie does whats best for the team and doesnt worry about appeasing the players.

Werth solved his chronic getting picked off problem. He never reaches base. Nice way to eliminate the middle man.

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
