As the Eagles begin their week of preparation for the season opener against Green Bay, everyone is practicing today, coach Andy Reid said.

Quarterback Kevin Kolb will face a lot of questions this week about Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, who sat behind Brett Favre for three seasons before taking over a team that this year -- in Rodgers' third season as the starter -- is a popular pick to go to the Super Bowl. Today, Kolb was asked what impressed him about the way Rodgers went about succeeding a legend.

"I think it's how steady he is," said Kolb, who said he has texted with but hasn't spoken to Rodgers about their similar situations. "Nobody ever questioned his confidence. They've always known he had the ability, but the way he's shown solid confidence in the whole thing, Not only is it solid for the fans and the media and everybody on the outside, but it's important for his own teammates ... That's something I can learn from."

This is a huge week for Kolb, another in a series of "firsts" in this year of transition.

"You don't want to get yourself too amped too early," he said. "We've all been champing at the bit here the past four or five days to get out there and practice. Coach always tell us the game's on Sunday."

Reid said he never goes into a game anticipating a shootout, because that would disrespect the preparation of his defense, but knows the Packers "do have an explosive offense, and there will be a play or two made."

The Eagles' defense heads into the opener with rookie starters Brandon Graham at defensive end and Nate Allen at safety. Reid said Allen is intelligent, physical and has good ball skills. He said Graham "has a tremendous energy about him."

Reid said center Jamaal Jackson seems ready but that it's a "little bit of an unknown" as to how well he will hold up for a full game. Jackson tore his ACL last December and did not see any preseason action.

Jackson said the same thing -- that he thinks he is ready to play a whole game, but until he does it, he can't know for sure. "I feel confident in it, but I still haven't played a whole game. I just gotta see how I hold up through four quarters of football."

We told you earlier this week about the potential issues the Packers might have in the return game. On Tuesday, The team got a visit from Clifton Smith, a Pro Bowl returner with Tampa Bay in 2008 who was sidlined with injuries last year. However, Smith signed with Miami this morning.

To the Packers offense it will feel like a shootout. I don't know that we're in sync yet to score many points. Special teams and a super pass rush is the only way I see us winning the opener.

It's time for Les to break away from Domo with a blog of his own. Domo's typos and general nothingness shouldn't be associated with Les's accuracy, humor, and insight.

Les and Domo: Aaron Rodgers has confidence because he has something callled TALENT. Kevin Kolb, on the other hand.....The view that Kevin Kolb is a better option than Michael Vick at quarterback is now only shared by hate mongers like Bill20, Ray Didinger, John Gonzolez, and Paul Domowitch. Did you ACTUALLY watch Kevin Kolb play quarterback this year? DO YOU PEOPLE EVEN WATCH THE GAMES? GOOD GOD HE'S A HIGH SCHOOL (sorry, University of Houston) QUARTERBACK. He looks TERRIFIED out there. HE CAN'T MOVE, HELL HE CAN'T EVEN THROW THAT WELL. Vick, on the other hand, looks impressive, throwing AND running. Our only shot of making the playoffs this year is with Vick. Haters like you, Ray Didinger, and John Gonzolez will EAT THEIR WORDS when Kolb fails, you will probably try and blame it on Vick somehow if he does, or the offensive line or because it will be ANYONE'S fault EXCEPT YOUR LITTLE GOLDEN GIRL, 165lb KEVIN KOLB. The writing is already on the wall, Kolb LOOKED LIKE A SCARED LITTLE GIRL AND IT WAS ONLY THE PRESEASON. So don't try and blame Vick OR the offensive line WHEN (WHEN, not if) Kolb FAILS. Haters like RAY DIDINGER, BILL20, JOHN GONZOLEZ, AND PAUL DOMOWITCH WILL EAT THEIR WORDS WHEN KOLB FAILS, OF COURSE THEY'LL COME UP WITH EVERY EXCUSE IN THE BOOK FOR HIM AND I'LL BE WAITING TO POINT THEM OUT...Michael Vick's career record as a starter in the NFL: 38-28 Career playoff record: 2-2 Pro Bowls: 3 Set the NFL record in 2006 with yards per carry: 8.4 The only QB to ever throw for 250 yards and rush for 100 in a game - Denver Kevin Kolb: Career record: 1-1 Playoff record: 0-0 Kolb also earned the official honors of "most scared player" during the 2010 preseason, and the complementary "deer in the headlights" honor to go along with it.

brmmorgen, typing in caps does not mask the fact that you are an idiot. You post vicks 38-28 career record as though that is something to write home about. Vick's skill set is even less suited than McNabbs for running the west coast offense which is premised on accuracy, reading the defense, good footwork, and intelligence. Instead of accusing others of not watching preseason football (which, mind you, is nothing more than an exercise in futility because neither team game plans for the opponent), why don't you sit down and watch tape of Vick's career, and see if he posses any of the aforementioned qualities. Actually, let me kill the suspense for you, he does not. He has been criticized his entire career for not studying game film, for dismissing coaches begging him to work on his footwork and mechanics instead of relying on athleticism, and has one of the lowest completion percentages in the league. Kolb will prove you wrong, because Kolb is a good player who fits the mold of a west coast offense QB. Arm strength is overrated (see: Jamarcus Russel, Kyle Boller). Look at some of the greatest QBs all time that did not havbe cannon arms (Montana, Brady, Young), and you see a lot of similarities with Kolb. They relied on their intelligence, accuracy, and ability to make a play. As for the bad offensive line, that is not an excuse, it is a causal connection. He cannot complete passes and allow his playmakers to make plays unless he has time to find them. Anyone with a remote semblence of football IQ understands this concept. It really just sounds like you are doing what you criticize others for preemptively: coming up with excuses in case you are wrong.

Kolb's actual height and weight =6'3" 220lbs. He isn't the fastest QB in the NFL, but is by no means slow. I didn't see the whole "deer in the headlights thing at all" I saw some happy feet, but it takes a couple of of quarters for a young quarterback to settle down sometimes. I saw more than a few dropped passes, missed blocks, etc. It's a team game. O yea I also saw Kolb throw the 20 yard out with plenty of mustard. I think someone is just in love with Vick, can't blame ya there, people with herps tend to support one another.

right on brmorgen, because Vick was awesome in preseason, wasn't he? Let's see some of his other stats: 53.7% completion rate for his career, 134.8 passing yards per game, 75.9 quaterback rating. This is who you want leading the team? Don't worry, when he pulls it down and runs with the ball he'll pick up a whole yard each time. Just be an Eagles fan and stop posting this nonsense. I'm not a huge Kolb fan (especially after this presaeson), but you have to have some common sense here.

IgglesPhitinPhils3 says: "Kolb will prove you wrong, because Kolb is a good player who fits the mold of a west coast offense QB." - LOL, OMG LOL. The Kolb apologists all spew the same propaganda, the bottom line is the guy can't play and that's quite obvious to football minds like myself.

stop with the vick bashing because brmorgen is hype. at this point, kolb is no better then vick. he has the potential to be better, but as of right now, you cant say that he is. only time will tell. so we HOPE that kolb will have vick's accomplishments of making the playoffs and being an all pro. but only time will tell. opinions are just that. until kolb proves he is worthy, vick, because of his accomplishments, is the better qb. kolb, prove me wrong. go eagles!

yes, confidence was helpful for rodgers, but equally helpful was his talent and skill level, which is so much higher than kevin kolb that the two should not be in the same conversation.
