Marty: Gameplan was early casualty last week

The idea was not for Nick Foles to drop back to pass 50 or so times in his starting debut, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said Friday. It just worked out that way, after the Birds fell behind early and had to go to a 2-minute offensive approach, Mornhinweg said.
"We struggled to get anything going at all" in the 31-6 loss, Mornhinweg said, as the Birds prepared to take another shot at breaking a now-six-game losing streak, at the Linc Monday night against the Panthers.
Foles, who will start again Monday with Michael Vick still sidelined by a concussion, threw third-down interceptions on his first two series, distorting the rest of the game. "I've got to do better. Third and longs with a rookie quarterback, you're always susceptible to those types of things," Mornhinweg said.
Mornhinweg said Foles "learned an awful lot ... And I will say I'm excited about this ballgame coming up. because not always, but normally, that second start for a rookie quarterback is usually a little bit better ... We've got to help him. I've gotta help him, the line's gotta help him, the receivers gotta help him. We dropped a host of balls (against Washington). We've got to cumulatively get to the next level so Nick can have success."
Overall, Mornhinweg said: "We've been nicked up pretty good, but nobody wants to hear about that. We've got some fine football players ... We haven't played very many plays together. I would expect us to get better and better every week. It's just that simple.
"We've got to take on, sort of, the personality of this city. We've got to be bold and aggressive in everything we do, in this situation. I'm sure there's some people out there that have been knocked down. Shoot, we get up, dust ourselves off and let's get to the next thing, And the next thing is this practice coming up ... That has to be our mentality."
Detroit's Wide 9 seems to work pretty well..., I think it is about the personel you put in place. Philliefan75inAZ
Watching this cretinous moron on TV this morning was infuriating. He is a loser who is now tap dancing through the fecal remains of his work. Bob1
this team would have won with brett farve as quarterback (quote,t.o.) arkdad212
should have altered the game plan for Vick as well, since Vick is (was) no West Coast QB. In fact look at the Skins offense with Griffin and how effective play/pass calls have been. Safeties having to play the run are often sucked in leaving the wide receivers in single coverage. At the close of 2010 teams figured the Vick run offense, and there was no ostensible adjustments, not for injuries, weather, or which opponent. The red zone offense is a prime example. Probably looks good in practice, but other teams have figured it all out, by running the shot gun, sometimes with empty sets in the backfield, with qb who couldn't throw the slant or the fade, the birds had a very one dimensional approach. Question: if every fan and every two bit tv analyst knows this why...ah forget it. retzlaff
So, why doesn't Andy ever talk remotely like this? Pull Reid, turn it over to Marty 'til the end of the season, and let's see who was 'really' the culprit in the poor play selection and design. If they were both at fault, so be it. Don't keep either of 'em. Clean house. But I'd like to know who was blowin' farts outta their ears while calling plays ... petergou
I almost fell off my seat laughing reading the "doctor's" comments. LOL wilmington
Andy and Marty are 2 offensive genius' and the best 2 QB Gurus in the NFL. Reid constantly drafts the best players available and then puts them in the best possible position on sundays to succeed. Its not his fault the players haven't been able to execute for 14 years. You people need to cut Reid some slack! After all, he did beat Pittsburgh in a meaningless pre season game and celebrated like he just won a Super Bowl. Geno D
superbowl.. lol... I think Andy is the Dr. kramer1965- reid has never once changed his game plan one bit to accommodate any of his players. he's the most stubborn man on earth. Ryan

really MM? you are a joke. having Foles throw 50 times is a joke. chocolatethunder
If a team can predict what is going to be called...that is not helping Foles at all...MM just does not understand even the fans can tell what he is going to run...why are the Eagles where they are? MM...he is just dumber than a box of rocks. 5thstrretpast
Doctor - I want some of what you prescribed for yourself! tbjama
doctor72 - I have some ocean front property in arizona for sale, cheap.
These coaches suck. All of them. MM and AR have sucked for years and stuff like this is why Unstable1
It is imperative that we stay positive! Our positivity will fuel an epic season comeback. If you look at the records, teh Eagles still have a shot at winning the NFC East. If they do that, we will win the Super Bowl. doctor72
The opening kickoff is good enough excuse for him to throw it 50x. Why Marty was allowed to stay and Castillo was fired is beyond me, if it had been the other way around, we might still have a season. Reid's biggest downfall is that over 14yrs he's never changed his offensive philosophy. Just look at the elite offensive teams, they constantly adjust year to year depending on what suits them best. The patriots offense goes from spread it out with Moss, to 85%(!!) two tight end sets with Gronk/Hernandez last year. The saints had a real nice 3 headed running attack one yr then because of injuries they let Brees throw and throw and he breaks records because that's what they needed to do for them to win. Your best players should dictate your scheme. Andy says every week he needs to put his players in a better position to succeed, yet every week he fails miserably. Stephen45- Stephen, they even threw on the kick off. Was to be a lateral, but they could not help themselves.

should have been fired years ago... 46 and 2
They should be fired for making a rookie QB in his first NFL start ever throw over 55 passes in the game...especially with a awful patched up offensive line....just absolutely terrible coaching. jim35
I agree with Mr. Boryla.

Aren't as bad as the Jets. MrJayScott
"get to the next level"? That would be what, the High School level? Their Pop Warner level of play just hasn't been working so well. BigRoundRed
The "Game Plan" has been a joke for years. I would respect AR a little more if he got rid of Mornhinweg, Mudd and Washburn. Let's bag the Wide 9 as well. Mike Boryla
